Titus Bramble blog

I no this has nothing to do with Chelsea but it is just about the best blog I have read so I thought I should copy and paste for others to read. It comes from the guardian and was not written by me but by a person under the name Blogger B.

There is one man in sport who defies convention to such an extent that his actions can only be seen as revolutionary. One man who has become so unfathomably dire in his field that his actions can only be accounted for if they are intentional and visionary. One man who goes out of his way to make everyone around him look like shining beacons of a sport so flooded with talent that it is losing its only purpose - to entertain. That man is Titus Bramble.

Titus's Maoist, vehemently disestablishment leanings assemble themselves in his total and unambiguous refusal to 'play football'. In the current climate of overpaid superstars and players wresting the reigns of control away from managers and referees, his viewpoint is a refreshing refrain and an inspiration. Reminding us of a young Cantona (where Cantona showed the world how football should be played, Titus tirelessly and remorselessly demonstrates how it shouldn't. Can'tona, if you will) this young man conducts himself with enough humility to come to the conclusion that he has no right to make a challenge for the ball, or chose the right pass, or stay on his feet. For he alone knows that the good of the sport must come at his own expense. With scant disregard for his own reputation or well-being, he chooses anarchy over conformism, a foul over a tackle, an own goal over a clearance, the wrong choice over the right. Titus battles alone against a dark vision of the future - a cavalcade of endless talent drowning a once simple sport in their boundless skill and pin-point passing. To these 'professionals' Titus Bramble forever turns his back and says, "No, I will do it my way. I will do it the wrong way."

Can he stay on his feet while those around him remain on theirs? No, he can't. Can he justify his mountainous wage with the skills and prowess a professional footballer needs to succeed? No he can't. Can he pass a single game without performing at least one bemusing sacrificial error so as to leave his team mates utterly confused, but comparatively blameless? No, quite simply, he can't.

But ask any sports fan if this man can instil a seed of hope within all those who sit in pubs up and down the land and exclaim, "I'm sure I'm better than him"? And their answer will be unanimous: yes, he can.

Titus Bramble. Maoist. Martyr. Miscreant. Entertainer. King of YouTube. And, if the definition of being a good sportsman is to put the reputations of others above your own and to bring a sliver of hope to a host of failed and aging footballers across the land, then Titus Bramble is sportsman of the decade.

Ironically this was in reply to who should be sports personality of the year.

He gets my vote.

Deco: Title or Bust

Deco has claimed Phil Scolari would have failed if he is unable to bring the Premier League or Champions League title to the Bridge this season.

After two years away from the League crown and still pursuing their first Champions League triumph, Deco sees this season as the one to be getting back to winning major honours.

He sees Scolari as the man to bring silverware to Chelsea as regularly as they enjoyed it under Mourinho.

(Story for the Daily Star)

Scolari concerned by home form

Phil Scolari has admitted Chelsea's early home form is a worry and could be decisive in the chase for the Championship.

Chelsea lost their 86 game unbeaten run at the weekend with a defeat to Liverpool, as well as already drawing two games against Tottenham and Manchester United.

When compared to their away form of winning all five games, scoring 14 goals in the process it can be seen why Scolari sees this as a concern.

Lampard is best midfielder in the world - Terry

John Terry believes there is no midfielder in hotter form than Frank Lampard anywhere in the world.

The midfielder is convinced he is in the best form of his life and his superb goal against Hull on Wednesday night goes some way to showing that. It moved his tally to the season to seven, again the highest tally in the league for a midfielder, and is course to break the 20 goal tally for the fourth successive season.

Lampard is now on 99 Premiership goals and is looking for his centenary against Sunderland at the weekend.

Carvalho out for three weeks

Ricardo Carvalho faces a minimum of three weeks on the side-lines after it was confirmed he picked up a thigh problem against Hull.

Carvalho only made his comeback from a knee ligament injury last week is expected to miss five games and be back late November.

The games he is likely to will miss are the league games against Sunderland, Blackburn, and West Brom, along with the CHampions League tie against Roma and the Carling Cup match against Burnley.

Alex is expected to debutise but Chelsea are now short in defence after Michael Mancienne has gone out on loan to wolves.

Hull 0 Chelsea 3

Chelsea bounced back from the disappointment of the weekend in emphatic fashion as they fire three past Hull at the KC Stadium.

Goals from Lampard, Anelka, and Malouda were enough to see off the surprise team of the season, but had Chelsea been more clinical in front of goal the tally could have been so much more.

Frank Lampard put Chelsea ahead after just four minutes with a delicate lob from the edge of the area to leave keeper Myhill helpless.

Hull were able to keep it at this until half time and could have gone in level but for Daniel Cousin's low drive hitting the post.

Just five minutes into the second half Nicolas Anelka took full advantage as Hull's defence hesitated to get on the end of a hopeful long ball and slot in past Myhill.

Malouda wrapped up the goals 15 minutes from the end as he finished from six yards, converting Ricardo Carvalho's low cross with the outside of his boot.

The only sour note of the night was in the dying minutes when Carvalho had to limp off the field with a suspected hamstring tear.

Terry's 10 years at the top

It was 10 years ago today that John Terry made his Chelsea debut as a 17 year old against Aston Villa in the then called Worthington Cup.

Chelsea won that particular game 4-1 with a hat-trick from player manager Gianluca Vialli.

Terry came on as a substitute at the Bridge for right back Dan Petrescu.

It was also the day that the film Lock, Stock and two Smoking Barrells was released.

Mancienne goes to Wolves on loan

Chelsea's England U-21 centre back Michael Mancienne has moved to Chamiopnship high flyers Wolves on a two month deal.

Mancienne is a regular at U-21 level but has been unable to get a chance in the Premier League.

Last month the defender claimed he may have to look for a move if he couldn't get first team action, so this looks like a viable alternative.

Chelsea 0 Liverpool 1

Liverpool were victorious in the top of the table clash at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea saw their 86 home game unbeaten record fall apart.

The record which went back over four years and two managers was ended by a single goal by Xabi Alonso.

The Spaniard broke the deadlock in only the 10th minute as his weak shot got deflected off Jose Boswinga and wrong footed keeper Petr Cech.

Chelsea enjoyed long periods of possession as they tried to find an answer but was unable to break through the tight Liverpool defence, lead by the impressive Jamie Carragher.

Ashley Cole had Chelsea's best opportunity but was unable to convert past Jose Reina.

The result shows Liverpool's title credentials as they move three points clear at the top, but Chelsea still remain second ahead of fellow rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.

Torres out of Chelsea Clash

Fernando Torres will miss the game against Chelsea after failing to recover from the hamstring injury he picked up midweek.

This is a huge blow to Liverpool but manager Rafa Benitez still feels he can end Chelsea's 86 game unbeaten home run.

As well as losing Torres the visitors could also be without his strike partner Robbie Keane who is struggling to overcome a groin injury.

Kenyon not looking to buy in January

Chelsea Chief Executive Peter Kenyon has said they have no intention of spending in the January transfer window.

He believes that Scolari has enough at his disposal to mount a challenge on all four fronts.

Chelsea have started the season strongly as they lie on top of both the Premier League and their group in the Champions League.

Kenyon said:"We have a squad that is good enough, arguably the best squad in depth and Phil has the ability to get the best out of that."

The Blues spent over £20 million in the summer on the additions of Jose Boswinga and Deco who look to have completed their strong squad.

Scolari hails his Invincible's

Phil Scolari sent a warning out to his title rivals by claiming his current crop of players are the new invincible's.

As Chelsea go into their top of the table clash against Liverpool, Big Phil is setting his sights on matching Arsenal's achievement of going a whole season unbeaten.

He said: "Yes it's possible to go through the Premier League season undefeated. I think my team have the passion, the professionalism and the results to be perfect."

So far Chelsea have gone their first eight games unbeaten, as have rivals Liverpool.

Drogba escapes punishment over comments

The Football Association have decided not to charge Didier Drogba over the comments made in his recent autobiography.

The FA were investigating the controversial book where Drogba claimed he wished he had punched Manchester UNited defender Nemanja Vidic during the Champions League final last year.

The FA concluded that it wasn't the same circumstances as Roy Keane's autobiography in 2002 when the then Manchester United midfielder received a five game ban for saying he delibratly injured Alf Inge Haaland.

Chelsea 1 Roma 0

John Terry's winner ensured Chelsea moved three points clear in the group and remained in a strong position to progress.

Although the hosts couldn't manage the same flowing football that was so evident against Middlesbrough four days ago, it is the hard faught three points that pleases Scolari the most.

The Blues boss said: "The most important thing today was our result. We have one more game at home and we needed three points tonight.

"Sometimes 1-0 is more important than 5-0 because you have to respect the other team"

Terry scored the decisive goal 12 minutes from time as Roma's strong resilience finally caved in. Terry got on the end of Lampard's corner to header past keeper Doni at the near post.

Roma's intentions were clear from the start when they failed to name a reconised front man in their starting line up, relying on Francesco Totti to lead the line.

Although Chelsea pushed forward, looking to attack they found it hard to penetrate Roma's backline with Lampard's free kick the closest the hosts came in the first half as it hit the post.

The game saw a return to the starting line up for Petr Cech, Ricardo Carvalho and Deco who will all be hoping to feature at the weekend against Liverpool.

Chelsea Team: Cech, Bosingwa, Terry, Carvalho, Bridge, Kalou (Di Santo 77), Lampard, Mikel, Malouda (Belletti 46), Deco, Anelka (Ferreira 90).

Deco in line to Start

Deco is in contention to make his first start for a month against Roma on Wednesday.

After an impressive start to the season the Portugese star was sidelined by a thigh injury, keeping him out of the last five games.

Joe Cole and Petr Cech could also make a comeback after both players missed the weekend game against Boro.

Chelsea are still without Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack, Michael Essien, Ricardo Carvalho and Ashley Cole.

Roma look to bounce back from their 4-0 thrashing at home to Inter Milan at the weekend and are able to recall Phillippe Mexes and former Chelsea defender Christian Panucci after both players served a domestic ban. They also have captain Franceso Totti fit to start after coming through his first start since April in their previous game.

A win tomorrow will put Chelsea in a strong position to qualify for the next round with seven points from the first half of games.

Drogba got injured in the last Champions League against Cluj, suffering knee ligament damage.

Roma in crises leading up to Wednesday

The Daily Mail claim Roma boss Luciano Spalletti held an emergency meeting following their 4-0 home defeat to Jose's Inter Milan at the weekend.

It is understood that if they suffer another defeat at the Bridge on Wednesday then his job is under serious threat

Roma are currently 14th in Serie A having only claimed seven points from their opening seven games

Captain Francesco Totti looks set to be fit to play after a knee problem but former Arsenal man Julio Baptista misses out.

Lampard: The top is getting crowded

Frank Lampard admitted that it is more than just Manchester United who are going to be challenging us for the title this year, pointing out next weeks opponents Liverpool as a serious threat.

Lampard has helped Chelsea to top of the league as it stands but we have still been unable to open up a gap over the Merseyside team.

With Arsenal and United also within six points of us Frank anticipates a tight race between all four.
