Chelsea 0 Liverpool 1

Liverpool were victorious in the top of the table clash at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea saw their 86 home game unbeaten record fall apart.

The record which went back over four years and two managers was ended by a single goal by Xabi Alonso.

The Spaniard broke the deadlock in only the 10th minute as his weak shot got deflected off Jose Boswinga and wrong footed keeper Petr Cech.

Chelsea enjoyed long periods of possession as they tried to find an answer but was unable to break through the tight Liverpool defence, lead by the impressive Jamie Carragher.

Ashley Cole had Chelsea's best opportunity but was unable to convert past Jose Reina.

The result shows Liverpool's title credentials as they move three points clear at the top, but Chelsea still remain second ahead of fellow rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.
